Chris felt freaked out by the registrar’s question.

‘It’s kind of strange that your life took a whole different turn but nothing much happened,’ said the registrar.
Chris felt on the verge of telling, but felt an even more compelling urge to get out of the doctor’s office. ‘I want to go now,’ he said.
‘I can’t stop you going,’ said the registrar, but if you decide you’d like to talk further, you’re welcome to come back and see me.’
In the safety of his room, Chris felt so angry with himself. He wanted to go back and tell but how could he after all this time?
He went in search of his parents’ whisky bottle and the pills he’d used to numb himself. There were none to be found. After last time, they must have hidden them.
In desperation he went out to the garage and started the engine.
