There was no way she could tell. What was there to tell
anyway? It would be silly to make a fuss just because Dad
had touched her. If it had been something really important,
maybe she could have told.
Mum was better than she had been for a long time. It would be unthinkable to tell her about this. She might get sick again. She might even have to go back to hospital. Dad would be upset too. He hadn’t really meant anything.
At the end of the term 3, Liv’s report card was worse than ever. Her parents still weren’t really angry though. She had taken a lot of days off sick and they understood that this made it hard to keep up.
What was worrying was that no one knew what was wrong with her. She had had all the kinds of tests but the doctor still hadn’t been able to find anything. She often found it hard to concentrate. In the term 4, this added to difficulties she had. Her mind wandered one day when she was riding her bike and she crashed into a parked car. She needed stitches in her head and broke one arm.
When she went back to get the stitches out, the doctor also talked about the number of accidents and illnesses she’d had recently. He wondered if there was anything she was worried about. Liv just said it seemed to be an unlucky year for her.
Back home, however, she realised it wasn’t just to do with bad luck. She had been feeling so miserable lately, it was hard to keep going at all. She often just went through the motions without concentrating. She wondered if she should tell her mother.
